Are certifications necessary for a Mechanical engineer apart from the University Degree?

Mechanical Engineering Degree is General Competency required by a person to understand mechanical related issues in industry, but competency certification gives extra edge of knowledge for specific understanding about the issue. (Like Vibration Certification or NDT Certification,etc.)

At least diploma in mechanical engineering but degree is preferred.
