Thank you for your invite. Please do not ask me. All I remember of my earlier days I used to tell my boss I want to rest or want to go for a movie with school friends etc and I remember I did get an off  many a times. I feel if you are honest with your boss they will always suggest you a way to apply for an off day. Though we can't generalize but I was lucky to have gotten more friendly environments to work.

"What's considered good excuses for missing work?"

Employee might encounter some emergency circumstances beyond his control for example death cases of close relative (Father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) or accident, only excuses that comply with labor and corporate rules & regulations considered acceptable excuses. However, many organizations leave each case to the personal evaluation of employee manager.

Of course this is a discretionary issue differs from official to another as it depend on various elements such as rules & regulations, type of work, work environments, culture and employee record.

However, honest employee who is looking forward for career progression and prosperity. Should not look for vague excuses because eventually he will be naked.

Creating flimsy reasons to deliberate failure to work detriment the employee, the operation and work ethics and I cannot be a part of this.

No one can argue with performance. Come in two or three hours early – or stay late – for a week or two. Then negotiate a day off in advance. “Really work when you’re there, so you’ll be able to feel good about taking time off,” says Andrea Nierenberg, president of The Nierenberg Group, a management consulting and personal marketing practice

I never wants to create lame excuses for missing work. I honestly say the reason I have for taking off. And I do think of importance of the work as well, if that day my presence is important, than I definitely try my level best to go to work by put aside my personal work and based on the priority which is more important. Thanks.
