The communicative approach came as a reaction to Chomsky's linguistic competence. It was advocated by Hymes who proposed the term communicative competence to represent the use of language in social contexts. The main objective has been to set up potential teaching strategies and develop the learners' ability to use the language taught as a practical means of communication.

Basisi is on free, flowing speech but still aimed at a certain theme and deirected by a teacher, more attention on words in sentenes and more focus on modern, vivid language
