First you need to have the building plans and determine the type of detectors required (whether smoke or heat), then in compliant with NFPA72 requirements, locate the detectors observing proper distances and height.
After determining the number of detectors, you have to decide whether you need an addressable detectors with addressable fire alarm panel in case quantity of detectors is too many (applicable to high rise of large buildings); or non-addressable detectors with non-addressable fire alarm panel, in case the quantity of detectors are few (applicable to small buildings).
For big buildings, it is recommended to include emergency voice evacuation systems, while for small buildings, strobes with hooters or alarm bells will be compliant.
Fire Alarm and detector has two types
1- Non Address able
2- Addressable
You can Select it by analyzing the area to where the detectors should be used. If it is a high risk area maybe you should use a Addressable type of Detectors and a Addressable FACP.
