Hi Muhammad,

With regards to you query, there are several factors that need to be determined before you can start scoping the retail presence for a city.

1.Product and/or service being offered. Pricing, one off sale, recurring sale, etc.

2. Consumer targeted.  And use of retail outlet. Sales and/or service?

3. Channel and Sales Strategy. Direct, Indirect. Franchisee or Company Owned, etc. Also influenced by the business plan/budget, including head-count.

4. Type and size of city. By type I mean is it a traditional city as in Asia where you have the old city and the new city usually divided by a river. Or a new planned city?

5. Population : Density area wise, their demography, etc. People movement in the city. Residential, commercial, mix, etc.

6. Traffic: How does the traffic in the various parts of the city and within the city flow. Timing, road network, etc.

7. Real-Estate: Quality and quantity of real estate available. This would again depend on type of product/service vs target consumer. And off course budget.

Once these are determined, only then can you work out the Retail Strategy for a particular city.

regards

Prakash
