How would you deal with your students as a new teacher who is teaching for the first time in his life ?
Hope the following will help.
Do:
1. Introduce yourself briefly. Smile, be modest, and start your day.
2. Clean up your native accent in order to make your speech understandable. Do not speak too fast or to slow.
3. Take your time to get acquainted with each member of your class.
4. Promise the student exactly what they will achieve in the course, if they apply themselves and the homework you assign.
5. Introduce and describe the book selected by school.
6. Lay down your study rules.
Do not:
1. Don't strat teaching immediately. You and the class need to get aquainted first.
2. Speak in your student langauge.
3. Give more attention to the more outgoing students than the others.
4. Talk about yourself too much specially about your personal life.
5. Crtisize the book selected by the school. You must not allow your personal attiude to be known!
You must give the outward appearance of someone who has been teaching all their lives!
You mustn't tell them you haven't!
Things you should do:
Preapare and do activities the first couple of sessions, some of them could be around the classroom rules, so you will be doing two things at once.
Be confident, have eye contact (students can tell if you are not), ask them for their names and try to memorize it.
Involve the students in the activities as much as possible.
Things you shouldnt do:
Do not explain any lesson.
Do not be very easy with the students, be nice but firm at the same time. First impressions are very important.
Good luck :)
I am sure you will do great
I think English teacher or any other subject's teacher's first class should be more on introducing and knowing each other and establishing rapport with students.Teacher may ask the students their fields of interests hobbies extra curricular activities and any problem students facing. And also their knowledge of englsih or do the students require assistance in other language if they are poor in englsih
TRY YOUR BEST NOT TO CONTACT DIRECTLY WITH THE OTHERS ...JUST WATCH AND TRY TO KNOW SOME THING ABOUT EVERY THING
Things you should follow:
1-You should be interested in your outer appearance: you should look your best.
2-Introduce yourself to the students and appear as the master and run the period well as the first impression will continue.
3-Make your students trust you by your style of speaking and your ability to speak with them
4-Don't neglect anyone of your students.
5-Don't be angry or confused.
6-Don't forget to give your students short answers on their questions but they must be logical answers
as a teacher i must understand the communication methologies in a easier way.
First impression lasts! Remember that you are, as you should be, books ahead from your students. Establish sense of reliability, confidence, and great posture as a teacher. These will be achieved by preparing a lot before presenting the lesson, manage your stress/ "nervous factor" by deep breathing, and on the very time of your class introduce your self, state clearly your class rules and student demeanor while on class, stand properly and talk clearly so that you will be able to convey the message you want to relay to your student, use the questioning technique sparingly, and be gentle. Take note this day is your student's first view of your beautiful personality.
Things you should avoid are don't directly tell the student/learner any negative thing about him/her and don't exaggerate your make-up.
