The CEO is the "Chief Executive Officer" who is responsible for the overall health of the organization who answers to the board of directors and shareholders of a corporation.  The COO is the "Chief Operations Officer" primarily responsible for just that, the operations.   The CEO says what will be done and the COO executes them.CEO is usually the "outside" person who develops and owns the customer, strategic and investor relationships.  The COO stays inside and mops up after the CEO by trying to deliver on what he or she has promised
