Mostly as name implies, mechanical seal's function is to stop any leak from pump or similar equipment while pumping water or fluid. Seal has two parts, one fixed on rotor while other part on casing. Both parts are faces each other's lip against spring pressure. Faces are mostly of carbon/teflon. While in operation, casing face face of seal remains stationary and other half mounted on pump shaft rotates. In order to avoid damage because of friction between mobile and stationary face, a cooling fluid are provided. If seal is fitted properly with proper cooling medium, it long last. Mechanical seals are generally meant for high pressure/ RPM corrosive and expensive liquids to avoid waste and accident to operating personal.

It is an Engineering developed sealing materials to stop leakages like in the Oil & water pumps under pressure. It is designed to avoid pressure loss in the system which affect the operation of the system. The seal is composed of different materials suitable to any fluid use.Seal materials like Teflon & Graphite combine.Improper use of Mechanical seals causes heavy shaft scoring & leakages.
