Would you lie when answering questions at job interviews?

When it comes to the hiring process, just being yourself doesn't help. Because no one is perfect in this world and HR is always looking for someone "perfect". At times, they don't see the "Human" part of a person that tend to make mistakes and learn from it. So being genuine might land you in trouble some times. For example: a question like "Why do you want to leave your current job". Most candidates lie there so that they don't come across as a whiner.  No one tries to leave a company if they are absolutely happy there, a company that takes care of its employees. Because its really hard to find companies like that. People look for job change mostly because they have issues with immediate supervisor, management, no career development, no salary hikes etc. But can you say the truth risking not sounding like a complaint?!! That is why lying is okay there. "I have no issues with my current company, however I desire to take on more responsibilities and grow in new career". Another place candidate lies is for questions like "What are your strengths and weakness?" " What is your current package"? Sadly most of the companies do not follow a standard salary margin for all employees holding  (or candidates applying) for same rank / level position. They negotiate on salary based on your previous package. So do your research on what is the average salary range for the particular position you are applying for and accordingly negotiate on package.

 

Mostly HR interviewer's can't digest realities. A certain notion of "perfect" answer is set like a concrete in their mind. So why to risk. Happily please their notion, you can assure a place in the job. Having said that, not all interviewers are the same. Some definitely understands the human quotient in a candidate and can accept an honest answer. But I wouldn't suggest one should take a chance.

No honesty is the best policy. As far as your experience and qualifications go be very honest as these can easily be verified/checked back with previous employers. Moreover the social media on the web is another source of information.

When it comes to your strengths & weaknesses you may be able to play down certain negative aspects.. Remember during the interview your overall personality is under scrutiny & the interviewer would have got a fair idea about you.

Hence be honest

No. I rather tell the truth than lying during the interview. I wanted to be hired because they believe in my capabilities rather than creating one that is very recommendable to hire but in the end, the management were dissapointed with the performance that could be delivered according to what you have said during the interview.

Never, doing such act would lead to fumbling and ultimately candidate suffer. If you don't know any thing or answer then be straight and accept that you don't know the answer and this will save candidate image instead of manipulating answer would lead to -ve image!
