A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is a safety document required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) that contains data about the physical properties of a particular hazardous substance. MSDS sheets are created for a variety of hazard materials including compressed gases, flammable and combustible liquids, oxidizing materials, poisonous or infectious material, corrosive material and dangerously reactive materials. The purpose of the Material Safety Data Sheet information is to convey chemical safety and hazard information to the end user. Anyone who might handle, work with or be exposed to hazardous materials must have access to the Material Safety Data Sheets.
MSDS is important safety document contains information about physical and chemical properties of substance/material to be used. It also contains information about safe handling, storage, use, disposal and exposure limits to prepare risk assessment.
Chemicals are dangerous to handle, transport and use. Without proper knowledge one can get injured seriously or it may cause fatality and severe damage. MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) provide sufficient details required for handling, transporting and use of any chemical. It covers details about the chemical composition and properties of the chemical, its hazards and preventive measures, proper PPE required for handling, storage of the chemical, manufacturer details, manufacturing date and expiry date and other relevant information. MSDS should be studied thoroughly before purchasing so that one should know that whether he has facility for the storage and use of the chemical or not and what preventive measures are required for it. MSDS should be made available to the workers and proper training should be given to all the workers regarding the chemical
