Voltage winding should have high Impedance and connected in parallel this high Impedance guarantee that Voltage winding will not affect the load and consume power also it have large Number of turns
Current winding have very low Impedance and low burden . it connected in series and have little Number of turns .
A transformer is working on the principle of mutual induction.It has primary winding and secondary winding,when we connected in parallel to bus it is voltage transformer,when connected in series it is current transformers.The above said voltage and current transformers are also called as Instrument transformers.Both are used to measure thesupply voltage and Load current respectively,and also for protection.
It could mean that voltage winding which transform voltage in step-up or step-down which commonly used as PT with voltage ratio for voltage inputs in metering or relay protection, while it could also mean current winding or CT as the winding that is wound around a conductor and picks-up current from that conductor in ratio proportion also likewise applied as inputs in metering and relay protection.
1. voltage winding is lighter than current winding.
2. voltage winding should be free at both sides.
3. current winding should be closed at both sides.
4. voltage winding do not have saturation point rather current winding have saturation limit.
Voltage winding are connected in Parallel with the circuit and transforms the voltage level also called Potential Transformer and Current Transformer in connected in series with circuit and transforms current level, its also called current transformer
I will consider this question to ask about current transformer and potential transformer, because we use voltage winding in potential transformer and current winding in current transformer
