Attempt to commit suicide is a crime in India and may be in other countries as well. Do you agree?

Does this legal provision need to instill fear in the mind one who wants to attempt to commit suicide, as anyway one who is successful in committing suicide is out of reach to law? share your opinion. Thanks.

Yes that is true. A citizen belongs to the state, therefore commiting suicide is commiting crime against the state & crime its self is punishable as well as also  punishable against the state.

In many countries attempted suicide and suicide itself is unlawful. Until the legislature of a state repeals the prohibition, it is the law of the land. In those cases, the issue comes down to whether it is appropriate for Public Authorities i.e The DPP to prosecute the "crime". Is it really an effective use of public resources in prosecuting a crime where, in 9/10 cases the "offender" needs medical assistance i.e a Physiologist?

I think most people would agree it is a waste of public resources and tax payer funds to prosecute these types of "crimes".  The funds would better be used in the health system to help those who need it most. But in jurisdictions where these "crimes" exist, it is ultimately up to the director of the prosecuting body to determine whether it is appropriate to use his or her discretion to prosecute the crime.

Simply because it is a crime does not automatically make it appropriate to incarcerate an "offender".

I think it must not be a crime instade a psychological disorder needs to be treated.

it is not a crime. it is a mental problem a person experiences that makes them commit such act.

Euthanasia / Assisted Suicide in South Africa and i believe in most countries are illegal. That is assisting even a terminally ill patient with their death is a crime.

Yes I do agree. Life is gift of God and if anybody try to kill himself must be punished. its an act against God and state also.

yes. In the eyes of our God committing suicide is like committing murder to someone else. Its like you murder yourself. It is committing a crime with an intent action.
