to most important method of this era is Internet, you can develop you business on finger tips.
Nothing stays constant in this world. The technology, the web and the society always evolve. Business development evolves along with everything else and lead generation has been changing along with methods of communication. Business networks like LinkedIn have replaced old rolodexes and email have made cold calling look ridiculous. Yet, there are no fundamental changes in the sales cycles and risks for startups that choose to go the traditional route of knocking on the doors of large companies.
The markets are iterating to come up with a new form of business development called web services. This new form is both cheaper and simpler - no enterprise sales force is needed to scale the business. However the question, "If we build it, will they come?" still remains unanswered. If any company can make this model work really well it is likely to be replicated and become widespread. Will web services succeed? Time will tell.
Sound knowledge of happenings around the world, internet, good knowledge of market, positive attitude. Basically, we need to be aware of the situations and need to act accordingly.
In my view, the foresightedness to understand the market & to work towards achieving the same with the adequate & efficient use of technology and available resources.
I have no idea because I'm at least six months out of date on this point. However, I'm confident it'll be connected to mobile.

In brief, we live in a dynamic economy which requires us to say in sync with the fast-paced world we live in, In order to do this we have to use the right tools and acquire the proper skills to do so, So I believe you invest in yourself as a business owner or developer and invest in your employees and provide them with the proper tools and knowledge. Finally make sure that your organizational culture is flexible enough to adapt to the dynamic economy's nature and also consistent enough to keep you moving in a straight line or you'll be overwhelmed by the resistance of some of your employees whenever you try to change or add something to the business.
1. Don't waste your time going after business you don't really want.
2. The boss usually decides--not the assistant treasurer (or the intern).
3. It's just as easy to get a first-rate piece of business as a second-rate one. (So focus your resources.)
4. You never learn anything when you're talking.
5. The client's objective is more important than yours.
6. The respect of one person is worth more than an acquaintance with people.
7. When there's business to be found, go out and get it!
8. Important people like to deal with other important people. Are you one?
9. There's nothing worse than an unhappy client.
. If you get the business, it's up to you to see that it's well-handled.
