VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP) is a Cisco proprietary protocol that propagates the definition of Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) on the whole local area network. To do this, VTP carries VLAN information to all the switches in a VTP domain.

The server is the one responsible for creating and modifying vlans and sending the information to the other switches
The Client only receives and sends vlan infomation to other switches after updating its own database according to the information it received and the revision number
The Transparent only receives and sends the vlan information without changing its own database
