It is about how to use information system in your business and there is something calls Strategic Information System SIS. In SIS considers to be outwardly focused- that is aimed at increase competition in an industry and visible to all. For example, strategic systems have been used to provide new services to customers and/or suppliers, to increase customer switching costs, and to lock in suppliers, all with specific objective of achieving better results than one's competitors. According to Turban, McLean and Wehterebe, strategic systems have also been viewed inwardly; They are focused on enhancing the competitive position of the firm by increasing employers' productivity, streamlining business processes, and making better decisions.
The traditional ways are proven and we know they works. The technology can increase our productivity or improve our working process, means make some process faster or because of the technology we need just5 people instead of ten for the same work. Or just a very significant sample; fax or mail. Our communication is faster and we can exchange our thoughts within seconds. Before we was able to use fax or mail or whatsup or similar technology we has to wait the postman or what ever other way which needs a lot more time. So, technology can be useful and helpful. Or just think about the times before the PC era, or mobile phones or smart phones or a lot of other helpful tools.
Technology is giving so much in all industries and home back in the days communications is very minimal and expensive but now we can communicate to friends and families all over the world within seconds.
With modern technology you can see your home even when you are far away from home with your mobile or computers you can see your house and see recent activity going on.
Technology has helped us save time and travel distance than back in the days.
I think the best approach is a mix of both, actually.
