Competition can exist from two sides, supply and demand. That means if there are more supply but less demand, it is a competitive situation. In this situation, you would be priced out of the market by competition under quoting you.

 

If there is demand but less availability of resources in terms of manpower, you would lose manpower to competition. People leave organisation for many reasons but most important for better career prospects that is a better salary or better scope to learn and grow their career. At first, doing an assessment of the market forces is important.

 

In both the scenario, the answer is specialization. If you could allocate your resources to a profitable niche and differentiate yourself, you could succeed in building a strong brand ( competitive position ) and also be able to manage resources ( manpower )

There are many ways to increase sales as in a competitive markets, but a few are such as reaching the customers in multiple forms or ways which indirectly shows your presence in the market and customer service to his satisfaction which in turn helps in repeating sales as well as referring you by word of mouth which I feel is most effective in marketing yourself in the competition.
