Normalization has many benefits on many levels.

First of all you need to know that they are not obliged by the law unless it is explicitly done by your countries laws. Many companies work without having ISO certificates, but here's where the benefits should be mentioned.

For the companies:

  • When the company has a ISO certificate, it gains trust from it's clients that its products are of good quality and probably safer than others in the market.
  • More client confidence = more clients => More revenue (money)
  • ISO provides many documents that prove helpful for companies with certificates, like for example documents used for diagnosing broken machinery.Other documents help with the evolution of research since they give helpful guidelines and organized methods.

For the Clients / Users :

  • Insures the quality of products, It's like an extra guarantee for the client that the product is of good quality
  • Insures the safety of products , especially electrical. Most of these are obliged by law especially in Europe . Example : the CE marque you can find on most electrical components (look at you phone charger there's one probably)

For the production itself :

  • Insures the Interoperability of products. That means that products of different comapnies can work together seamlessly . For example the USB plug works for Windows , MAC android ...

I could go on but I think you should just google it. To sum up it's just very beneficial to have all these companies working together by some guidelines instead of complete chaos. Not to mention there are also some risks that comes from normalization. But that's for you to read about ;)
