What is “better than average” effect?

That is the called "better than average effect" (BTAE), regarding, for example, to the motivational behaviour or conducts of some tasks that can lead for feelings of self-worth. 

 

That can be applied to several contexts, since an auto-avaluation/cognitive predisposition that we always think that we are better than others.

 

Strategical mind speaking sometimes this kind of attitude can take the managers to understimate the, for example, competitors.

 

In other hand there is too the WTAE (Worst than average effect)... :)

BTA effect is encouraging the median results to achieve more positively acts feel to grow, improve and reach to higher scores.
