Social media marketing focuses on the content intended to be marketed through the social media sites. While content marketing is meant to market the content on the band website through its site. The difference here is the tool used in marketing which may deliver a different result.

  • Social media Marketing is basically a marketing process aimed at promoting Products/ Services in the different social Networks either in the form of Ads or in the form of content while Content marketing is a process aimed at creating the right type of content to fit for the particular purpose (for example A description of and or pictures of food items on a Menu on the company website of a Restaurant.)
  • According to Jay Baer, " Content Marketing is a device used by companies to educate, inform and entertain customers or prospects by creating attention or causing behavior that results in leads, sales or advocacy", where as Social Media Marketing is a new channeling effort more similar to and competes with TV, Radio and Print.
  • Jason Miller (LinkedIn): Alludes that Content Marketing will not replace social media by any means; they are and will continue to be two very different things with two very different functions. Social Media Channels are the tentacles from which your content extends its reach while opening up a direct line of communication with your customers and prospects.
