Dear Sir,

I would like to thank you for inviting me to cooment your questioning, and I think the question topic is very essential to everyone, because we should know what we have to update?, what we miss if we don't do this?and what are the consequences of windows updationg process?

Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, improve how your computer works, or improve your computing experience. Microsoft Update is a Microsoft Web site that scans your computer and gives you a list of updates relevant to your computer and its configuration. You decide what to download and install.

Automatic windows updating is clearly offered when your setup action of any latest version of Microsoft Office is complete, and the selection for a level of participation in Microsoft offerings, such as important product updates and Office Diagnostics will be available. So, you can change your settings at any time; by using Click – to Run Products Updates instead of Microsoft update after MS Office installation.

If you choose one of the following settings: Use Recommended Settings or Install Updates Only options, and you have Windows Vista or Windows7, Microsoft Update Service and Automatic Updates will be enabled. Important and recommended updates are automatically installed for Office, and other Microsoft software.

Those Important updates provide significant benefits, such as better protection from security or privacy threats. They also improve the reliability of your computer and software. If your software connects to an online service, important updates may be installed, if required, to maintain your access to the online service. Recommended updates address non-critical problems and help enhance your computing experience. You might also be offered new optional Office and Microsoft software. New software will not be installed automatically.

High Priority updates are automatically installed for Office, and other Microsoft software will be enabled when you choose those setting and you have Windows XP to get Microsoft Update Service and Automatic Updates. In similar to Windows Vista and Windows7, High Priority updates by Windows XP provide the same significant benefits and you will also receive updates for new software notifications as part of this setting.

In addition to this, you also receive the following services:

-              Online Help when connected to the Internet: to search for Help content on Office.com and choose whether updated Help content is downloaded to your computer.

-              Online Help Search Relevancy: This detects the Office applications on your computer and gives you better search results when you are connected to Office.com.

-              Reliability Updates: That enables your computer to automatically receive updates that help track and solve unexpected program closures and system failures.

-              Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP): This includes you in the Customer Experience Improvement Program that helps improve Microsoft Office.

If you choose the "Don't make Changes" setting, you cannot determine and solve issues with the Office programs that you have installed, and no information is collected by Microsoft to help improve Office.

I suppose that the automatic Windows update settings might be less effective when your computer hardware size is very small or restricted or even you staffed it with large numbers of previously downloaded files, which indeed will occupy the whole size of computer hardware.

And when you install programs or software by automatic windows updates, your computer will suffer from slowing down efficiency and ability to reopen any file or application will be low and default after that.

Besides, the automatic updating effect can be ineffective or counteract your computer work proficiency if you are still working upon the basis of previous versions of windows before Windows XP, Vista or7 versions, which might be unresponsive to current or future web updates of MS Office.

Best Regards,

Lubna Al-Sharif

The benefits of automatic update

1. You don't have to check everytime what are the available updates which is essential for your system to operate smoothly.

2. Your system will be updated even if your away from your pc as long as you leave it on

Disadvantage is sometimes you update your system manually but the system will still download and install the update even if you think that the one you install is a much better version.

Benefits:

No user interaction needed,

Operating system is always up to date.

Disadvantages:

Downloading without approval results in decreased bandwidth speed of internet,

Incomplete installation of hotfixes resulting in crashing of OS including Blue screen error.

Automatic update work in backgroud with out much user interaction. In Manual update you can choose which updates you want or not.
