Radio communication is done through open air. Normally when you're in highly packed or covered areas such as basement of a building, you may not receive a proper signal on your phone or in your FM. The reason is due to highly constructed concrete walls which block the radio transmissions. Similarly when there is humidity in wind, it creates an invisible sheet of thick air consisting water molecules which itself works as a concrete wall and hence transmission from high radio towers and satellites is being disrupted due to humidity in wind. Best example of it is that you get distorted or no signal over your Dish Cable due to heavy rains or much cloudy weather.
