What techniques and tools can be used to up-sell services & parts during vehicle acceptance for services (Before the vehicle goes in to workshop)?

Well yes you can use that. Best thing to do would be the interactive reception where the vehicle gets put up on the hoist at the reception. You can use brake pad thickness cards to check the pads, few fluid testers to check the brake fluid condition, a refractometer to check the coolant condition, this is a technique that FORD follows a lot, you do not need to do all these on every vehicle, but a good SA will look at the service records of the vehicle before it's taken in and by looking at the records n age of the vehicle they can tell upfront to the customer what extra work has to be done

Techniques: a walk around the car for the external damages inspection and a test drive for mechanical findings, of course the most important part is the experience of the service advisor and the services offered by the workshop.

 

Tools: diagnostic equipment can be a good help to find out about electronic faults on modern vehicles.
