If we are looking at the product, with respect to the manufacturer. Then the manufacturer should be able to develop the product in such a way that it tries to fall to the expectations of the customer. 

If again you are looking with respect to a business establishment. They need to stock 2 to 3 competitive products - consistently. Or in a better way, try stocking all the new launching products along with the consistent ones. Provide suggest help/advice to the customers, the product matching to their required criteria.

Customers may not have much time to validate the viability and utility of a product. It is here the business establishment, put in their efforts into is and try generate and maintain loyal customers.
