male or female it should not matter.I feel, what it boils down to is, the level of professionalism. How the manager deals with problems and opportunities. Sometimes 'male managers' bring the hammer down to hard and sometimes 'female managers' take offence (I say with all do respect) or get emotional when male subordinates don't listen to them. If you can cut out the nonsense and be a leader, this will work for both male or female.
