Oftentimes, due to lengthy project duration as a result of large-scale projects and multi-cultural employees in a diversified tasking of a project, we sometimes suffer from a set back of values of our workers, maybe due to policies, strict guidelines, personal values, etc of every employee, hence, as a Project Manager we need to alleviate the morale of our Team by inducing relative training, personal and educational development of each employee which is strategically planned for the project.
If your team is not motivated, it may be a sign that you as a manager fail to share the vision of your organization. They should know exactly what they are doing; why they are doing; how important it is to achieve organization's goal and how it adds value to their own career goals. A good leader should recognize the efforts of every individual in his team. Humans are not machines and they have emotions. Recognizing and praising their efforts motivate them to go above and beyond for your clients and projects. Last but not the least, add some fringe benefit to their salary package (e.g. membership of a health club) to show that you care.
The practise which i have observed works for everybody is "RECOGNITION" of that person's work and make him feel as a valuable asset of an organization. If a person's good performance (no matter how minor the project is) is valued, his morale spikes up like anything....
Giving them due favour and make them realize that they are important players in the team.
Dont forget to dine out with your Project Team sometimes. Relax. Then, talk about your projects just like they are all your old friends (not a boardroom meeting. Remember, as a Project Manager, your Team is your soldiers. They need to be treated as part of the elite Team. A tap on the shoulder is enough for work done successfully of your Project Engineer.
1. Make them realize their strengths and ask them to work on that
2. Ask them to take a breather for some time and come back
3. Sit with them and console them and give them time to comeback
1. Appreciation (key and psychological factor to keep one motivated).
2. Management support (professionally, financially and personally).
3. Provide appropriate tools to ensure smooth work flow.
4. Clear and transparent strategy, mission and vision of the organisation.
5. Respect diversity of cultures and human values.
In big long project, I found that celebrating milestones raises the morale of the projec team. These celebrations must be planned to reach that goals, in other words you need to address personnal needs as much as you can and if some people were not affected by one celebration, make sure that they are in the next one.
It is important to recognize the achievements of the project team members. To boost the morale of the team, I would conduct Team building activities such as holding team lunch or dinner, outdoor activity. As Project Managers we need to allocate certain budget for team building. Celebrating milestones and hold team building activities will motivate team members...
unlock their potential, listen to them and their needs and use the supportive role method,be supportive yet decisive, motivate them through planting the seed of positive thinking, show them the path to success and how there success will bring prosperity to them and there company, tell them how much the company is counting on them to bring change and success.
End of this project all of you will get the extra salary and bones, and by some percent we will increase you salary, and those who want vacation we will give him paid vacation, and see the weakness of the employ play with him
Set milestone and appreciate the team when each milestone is achieved with positive reinforcement.
