You’ve got a laptop that’s been assigned a DHCP address and no other privileges. Explain the steps you would take to discover network topology from there.

1- Go to controlpanel

2- Then click on network and sharing center

3- Then click on seefull Map

Its show map of network toplogy

have a look at the IP laptop receives, you will get the gateway.

From there do a IP scan or use the network map feature in windows.

In DHCP we have a step\concept called DORA

DHCP (D)iscover - Client "LAPTOP" Discover the DHCP Server

DHCP (O)ffer  - The DHCP server now Offer a set of IP's to the LAPTOP

DHCP (R)equest - Now the LAPTOP will Request the said IP to the DHCP server 

DHCP (A)ck - After that, the DHCP server will now Acknowledge the request of the laptop to get that specific ip address.
