What are your thoughts on Lean and SixSigma? Should they be used interchangeably?

My opinion is that Lean Six Sigma will finally become a name as recognized as ISO and TQM. There is still a lot of maturity on the education of Lean Six Sigma and its benefits.

Lean management is focusing on processes and waste attached to it, its effort is to reduce wastages from the entire supply chain. The six sigma attacks waste generated through variations in the process and this variation causes the flow disruption.

Both the approach discusses on value to customer. Six sigma works more systematically and statistically to eliminate variation whereas the lean management emphasizes on cultural change and the holistic approach.

These are two things focussing on common goal-add value to products/services for customer.
