-Smart Tools for my opinion and its working is (rest internal colck!) -ask your customers to set if you can handle or together
from time to time you need to rest the internal clock of the customers examples
-offer something to drink while waiting the customer waiting time will restart from the time of your offer
-after while if still waiting offer candy ..or magazine ...depend on your service ....
-every time you re-talk or approach your customer is new start for the internal clock !!

Always keep them busy by asking some questions, or give them some link which may be useful for them, like if the ask for product details ask or any other information. share them link and request them to go through.
leave multi tasking to systems.
focused on one customer at a time.
update the status regularly, follow TAT (Turn Around Time).
use better tools which shows information to us about the customer requirements.
(even displaying typing while we type in the response is a good example for updating the status to customer)
