The word Lean came from Toyota ( Japanese ) as there are the one who started this and very successful in implementation of lean concepts.

 

Japanese also call them as "MUDA" which is also know as waste.

There are 7 major wastes identified which are listed below.wormpit

  1. Waiting/Delay
  2. Over Production.
  3. Rework/Defect
  4. Motion 
  5. Processing(Over) 
  6. Inventory.
  7. Transportation 
  8. Un-utilized capability

This can be remembered by word "WORM-PIT" & U.
