Give notice in writing and then complete the notice period and leave.

if your employer is rejecting your request to leave when you really definitely most certainly have to leave. Then yes you give notice and via any means and inform another superior of your leave and pretty much get your butt out of there. however ONLY if you're sure you HAVE to leave, otherwise sit your butt and work effectively.

In any organization, employee and employer are bounded in a system. There are certain rules and regulations to obey while leaving or terminating the service contract. So, it is better to give notice as per rule, get approval and do all formalities of clearance before leaving.
