How to control concrete mix during hot weather?

Delivery of concrete mix through trans-mixers during hot weather is an important issue to be controlled. How to control a low temperature of concrete, how to control slump, how to control flow-ability, and how to control its strength depending on the aforementioned?

by adding  chilled  water to the mixer during concrete production,by keeping the temperature of the aggregates low by fogging and covering,by covering the transit mixer drums by hessian cloth and keeping them moist

actually the problem  with casting concrete in hot weather is that increasing the rate of hydration, thermal stress, the attendcy for drying shrinkage cracking, permability and decresea long term strength.

but there sre many stratiges to avoid that such as ;

1. water- reducing admixture is usfuel to improve workability.

2. retarding admixture is usful to reduce slump loss and incease setting time.

3. mineral admixture is also useful to reduce loss of workability and increase seetting time.

4. using ice as a part of mixing water quantity.

5.cool aggreagate by shading aggregate stockpiles from sun

The contanierized flake ice plan wth antomatic control system can make it realized.More could contact with me.Skype:gangcheung

using shelter for concrete coarse part

using wet borlap covered around concrete mixer trucks

using a chiller to control the water temprature

using an automatic batching plant to check the weather humidity in order to avoid adding more water to concrete when the humidity is very high and it can affect the water cement ratio

using some admixtures including micro cilis and supreplastisizers

  • Night pour
  • Cooling down concrete ingredient by various mean like portect from direct sun heat, sprinkle of water, use of chill water,  Slightly superplasticizer higher dosage but should be less than recommended max dosage by manufacturer.
  • Retarder may use to slow down setting time but be carefull, it might be reduced concrete compressive strength. I personally never recommend retarder.
  • Travelling distance shall not be more than 25min if possible
  • ice could be used in concrete production but may impact water cement ratio
  • Concrete Truck shall be in agitating position.
  • Concrete truck shall be discharged as soon as possible

It can be controlled using cold water to cool the heat.... It can also be controlled by keeping the aggregate away from hot sun since it is the major constituent of concrete......

The best way adding Fly-ash20-25%  and chilled water otherwise it will make critical situation. More ever we have to cover the Hessian Cloth on Transit mixer drum and every time spry the water while loading the Concrete.

Store the all aggregate and sand should be covered mete colour roof with spry of water as per the the code

Using chilled water while mixing and mixing the concerete are the best ways to control temperature

70 to 75 % of the mix consist of Aggregates . if it is managed to stock under shade

and a relatively cool place then for sure the temperature of the concrete will be low.

moreover using ice and cold water in concrete  is common in gulf.
