What are the criteria needed for switching a patient with DKA from insulin infusion to SC insulin ?

there are several criteria to be fulfilled before considering switching the patient to SC insulin the most important are :

- the anion gap should be back to normal

- bicarbonate level should ideally  be  above nineteen 

- the  patient tolerate oral feeding and IV fluids stopped 

- precipitating factor is under control

Once patient's condition is better and metabolic acidoses is resolved.
