To what extent do you agree with the claim that the Disney movie "The Lion King" was based on Shakespeare's classic tragedy "Hamlet", in terms of themes and significant ideas?

I don't know if it was based on hamlet but we can notice the followings:1. Both families are royal2. The uncle characters are similar3. Both of their fathers die4. Both of their fathers reappear as ghosts5. Both princes are sent away6. Both princes end up fighting their uncles7. Both princes must overcome a moral struggle

I wouldn't go so far as to say The Lion King really "based on" Hamlet, as many have said. It doesn't struggle with the same themes, or have the same impact. Rather, it's putting together a lot of fairly universal story elements, as every story does, but not taking all of them, nor taking them solely from that play. It's certainly more than coincidence, but it's not any closer to a retelling of Hamlet than it is to Strange Brew
