Do you prefer rehearsing and memorizing popular interview questions and answers because they make you more prepared for a job interview, or do you think that interviewers are used to hearing rehearsed answers and are looking for more genuine ones nowadays?

Rehearse and practice by all means, but don't memorise answers.  Repeating an answer you've memorised makes you look like an idiot.  Worse, it means you are not engaged with the interview ... and since the interview process is about establishing a relationship .... you're doing a foolish thing.

It can also make the interviewer feel stupid because they have asked such an obvious question you have a memorised answer.  It renders both the question and answer worthless, and thus wastes everybody's time.

When interviewing candidates who produce a memorised answer, I tend to challenge them (nicely!) about it.  How the candidate handles the challenge is important.

Learning of past interview question and answers should not be a problem. Moreover you need to understand concepts behind them, so that you can apply your knowledge gained through past experiences and answer to the point. Rehearsing doesn't workout, but learning and gaining knowledge will help answering the questions. I think Interviewers will surely recognize if some answering like rehearsed one and they surely expect the natural and application kind of answer. I think so. Thanks for the invitation.

I strongly prefer every single candidate to rehearse or get use to it with mostly asked interview questions because it give confidence. Rehearsing doesn't mean to copy someone else answer. It should be your own answer and will be purely based on your current or previous experience. Try to defend your answers with practical (experience/achievement) examples. Note down couple of your (achievements) examples that will help you during interview. Like you have been into worst situation and you handled that problem or pressure very well.

Rehearsing can be done in front of mirror :) YES "mirror" try to make eye contact with your self that will give you confidence.

When ever your interviewer use the term (when, how, where) during interview that means he wants to know your achievement or how you are going to handle the situation or how will you react to a problem or how you are going to use any particular skill according to the job you are applying for. Thats the time to talk about your achievements and skills (give examples).

It is better to be prepared for an interview.

One might need to mention at the interview, the reasons for joining the organization/position concern. This could be done only if you are prepared.  Your answers at the interview need to display as to how the company would benefit as well as how you are going to achieve your goals.  Also, if your answers gives an idea of how much you can contribute towards company's future, that too would assist you to score points.  This could be achieved only if you are prepared for the interview. Usually, the employers wish to prosper with the new recruits.  For this, you need to explain when you are given an opportunity, to air your views.  This could be done only if you are prepared for the interview.  Good if one can find out as to the reason for the vacancy - whether former employee has not been satisfactory or whether the former employee was promoted.  Based on this, you may be able to get an idea as to what the employer is expecting from the new recruit.  Therefore, being prepared for the interview is an advantage for a job seeker.

As soon as you hear a rehearsed answer from a candidate, an interviewer can assume that you have undergone some kind of coaching which may work against you in the interview. A candidate needs to show his original self & highlight his personality traits, achievements & qualifications in order to project himself as an individual fit for the position applied for.

Taking the above into consideration the candidate must prepare thoroughly covering all aspects such as his, experience, qualifications, best achievements, strengths & weaknesses etc on one side & a thorough study of the company on the other. He must also be prepared to answer questions relating to situations given by the interviewer & questions on general awareness related to the type of industry.

Answer:

Interview is the opportunity, when you have to show your competency. Now, each interviewee has different set of qualifications, experience and skills. So, answer of the interviewees will not be the same. Moreover, now-a-days in most of the cases, the employers prefer a written test followed by competency based interview. In competency based interview, the interviewer checks the quality of experience and depth of acquired skill of the candidates based on several probing questions.

Starting with the most popular question ”Tel us something about you” Now the candidates will describe their work experience and achievement, which will be different for each candidates. The interviewee then pick up question” When you did that? How did you accomplish? What was the outcome? What were the challenges? How did you overcome the challenges?  Will you address the similar situation in the same way or differently? If so why?

So, it is better for the interviewee to prepare such questions and rehearse accordingly so that he/she can answer the question correctly. The beauty of Competency Based Interview is that interviewer will be able to judge the quality of experience and depth of knowledge and would be able to make a final selection based on academic qualifications, written test and interview score.

So, it is advisable that the interviewee shall prepare popular questions genuinely and rehearse accordingly
