If you download apps from trusted sources I-e google play etc, you perfectly safe. In my opinion, you really don't need those android security apps. Being a tech geek, I never had any problem while living without security apps.

You do need to consider app permission (camera, contacts etc) that are granted when you install any app.

The security for the Android platform is much depends on whether you download the apps from unknown sources or not.
