Usually accounts are locked for invalid activity, entering the incorrect passwords for multiple times or it can be a server issue.

So the possibilities vary!

unlock his account.
ask him if recently renewed his password and if yes, ask him to update all devices that hold his account with the new password.
ask him to login to his webmail account and then go through the settings that allow him from log of from any device his account is configured on it and he can't access ti right now to update his password.
