When do we use derivative,differential or total derivative?

Derivative is technique  to measure the Change in dependent variable with respect to independent variable when it simple or one independent variable in model In other words , it is use to measure the  average rate of change or slope between two points is simply called derivative

If function is y=f(x)  then dx/dy is derivative .

 

But in respect of differential  dy/dx is being as a Ratio of dy and dx.

 

IF three variable are so attached that y=f(x) and x=f(w)  and we want to measure the rate of change in" y "with respect to "w" (dy/dw) then we use total derivative
