As per example : Do an EEG of brain.
- exclude metabolic causes.
- exclude drug effect
- Test for brain stem functions: spontaneous breathing, pupillary response to light, cough and gag reflex, corneal reflex
- Caloric test
- Apnea test
- EEG and brain imaging are confirmatory tests
dilated pupil and not responding to light
Atropine test is most basic of them all. 0.5 mg is given 3 times in short period. If there is no pulse action, BSD could be diagnosed. But those are not enough for determination, just helpful.
