This is always a big question to every local company.  In such a case, I would propose as follows:

Take a sample to Foreign Product and analyze the product where this is superior to your product and find out how much additional cost is needed to make the Local Product better or even comparable to Foreign Product. Involve marketing department for their ideas- how to make the product attractive to the customers.

Now go back to check how you could reduce the cost of production. Production cost could be reduced through higher labor productivity, higher capital productivity and use of technology appropriately to enhance the overall productivity.

Now:

·         To increase the labor productivity, you may have to train the labors and reorganize production process.

·         If the cost of capital is higher in local market, make a strategic offshore partner who could bring capital at lower cost. With new capital infusion, you may add new machinery to make a technological breakthrough.

·         You need to bring down your overhead cost though better use of available resources and product costing technique.

·         Similarly, you need to check every item in the supply chain and distribution channel to bring down the cost

  • We need a huge propagation campaigns come from government or private sector.
  • Aware our people about our products.
  • We need governmental support to improve our products.
  • We need to find out the weakness point inside our products and abolishing on it and pass our past mistakes.
  • We need to find out what people need inside our regions\\countries and try to manufacturing it to avoid the foreign products and satisfy our people.
  • Review our profit margin and products prices comparing to F.products , and try to reduce the price by reduce the cost of manufacturing and find alternative raw material.
  • Open new sales channels.
  • Mass distribution will help our efforts in time we find Chinese products around us everywhere.
  • Use Social media and mass media to aware the people for the local yields.
  • Use reward\\bonus concept with channels who selling the local product.
  • Always, review the quality of the products by a strict monitoring and high standard evaluations.
  •  Impose taxes on foreign products and on merchants who import it.

It is a huge project to protect the local products but it is not impossible , it needs efforts cooperation from (Manufacturers ,Governments, lawmakers ,People )  to do it accordingly .
