Communication protocol survey
what other to prefer to use and why the prefer certain one.
for me i prefer OPC because it take less time to commissioning the system
I agree with Yazan Al-Najjar. It depends on your application, not on what other people use in their companies.
Actually, we use both of them in our company, but the choice of the protocol in each case has been made according to its requirements
It depends on the application requirement,
1- OPC support time while modbus is not logging time for each signal.
2- OPC provides information about signal quality while modbus is providing the values only.
3- Modbus communication can operate 127 register for each R/W operation while OPC R/W each tag separately.
4- Redundant Modbus communication can be configured without using third party software while OPC usually need third party software to achieve redundancy.
5- Both of them are easy to configure but Modbus communication requires knowledge of modbus Function Codes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 15, 6,16 ...) to establish the communication.
We mostly ued Kepwaer OPC Server for Modbus and all other 3rd PARTY PLC communication.Irecomend you this is best well servies and large range of Communication Drivers Available.
Well it purely depends on client's requirements.
However, it would be good to have Modbus protocol when the data to be transferred is limited. Sometimes using different protocols may lead to have specialized competencies during commissioning as well as during maintenance.
