First of all, you have to understand the social norms in that culture, then what is appropriate and what isn't appropriate. for example if you got exchange with Saudi Arabia, you would wear a veil, secondly, some culture love their tradition and kinda is strict to it, so better be fixable, like in some countries it's an insult if you don't accept someone's hospitality and so on.
