Work place politics often happens in companies where there is a gap in implementing already existing policies or when there are no proper policies so that employees create havoc by gaming politics in organisation. To minimize workplace politics, the HR department should implement policies which describes the following :

- It should be clearly understood for employees what is an acceptable behavior and what is not

- Establish an organisational work culture that nurture the work life balance of employees.

- Introduce training programs to improve behavioral aspects and attitude towards work environment and fellow co workers.

- Often politics stems up when employees compete for visibility. Ensure that all employees get their deserved visibility at different stages of their employment and make sure adequate reward programs are in place to motivate high performers.

- For under performers, devise performance improvement plans and training programs.

- Clearly communicate the KRAs and Job description of each employees so that there is no room for politics to transfer unaccounted work .

Hope this helps..
