The very essence of "lean" is saving money. Common sense applied to any process will not cost you anything. Lean can be applied to all processes, both office and manufacturing and you should start by mapping out your current process and being self critical. There can be a very simlle starting process applied. Tidy your work area. Have a place for everything so that when put back, its easy to find. Dont repeat processes unneccesarily. Dont have unneccesary processes. Record important events. Stick to the process and continue to check it, improve it and sustain the changes that you know improve your process. As I say, its really common sense. Many consultants will complicate this process to charge larger fees when all a smaller vusiness requires is probably, direction, hand holding and mentoring.

Salam Waled,

Lean is not about always money, lean can even be applied in your home without even spending a single peny. its not necessary that all lean projects will take months or years to complete. When i was working as a consultant in India i have realised that the main reason that indians are poor in lean manufacturing is because of poor house keeping

So thats it house keeping is the key to lean manufacturing, simply keeping everything in its place and a place of everything and you will taste the convenience of lean management. rest of things can be done if you are good at sustaining the changes that you have made in your company. this is my opinion. hope you like it.

You don't really need money to start the lean transformation.

1) The first change is cultural.  Everybody should respect each other and work for continuous improvement.  That means everyone should try to do his or her job better.

2)5S should be implemented across the organization.

3) Draw up a Value Stream map of current state and desired future state, and work on eliminating the redundant or wasteful processes.

4) Do an anlysis of process capability (Cpk) of every work station and try to improve it.

5) Do de-bottlenecking of the process.  Focus on the slowest process, then on the next slowest, etc.

Work on sustaining the improvements.

6) Everyone should do kaizens all the time.

Best regards
