yes , we can control valve with out positioner as positioner has to do nothiing with valve control it only tells us the position of valve. when i used to work on well head projects i have come across this experience, we used positioner to know the about the position of valve from upstream to down stream. and from that value of positioner you can control the through pneumatic way or manual, in short positioner only help you to know the position of valve

the positioner is a main part of the control valve to perform the control function

Control valve can not be without positioner. The purpose of the positioner is to control the control valve stroke so as to keep the valve in desired position. The positioner receives signal from the controller, and send the boosted signal to the actuator to reach the desired position as and when the valve reaches the desired position the positioner cuts the boosted signal to the actuator and keeps the position.the following are the application to use valve with positinor:

1-split range control action.2-reverse acting actuator.3-valve size large than 3"(8cm)4-actuator power requirment in excess of controller out put.5-valve design inhrent of flow chractristics change.6-line pressure above 20bar or delta pressure more than 14 bar7-quick response actuator.8-elminated the hystersis.

but in certain cases  when we the positioner fail and we haven't spare we can use I/P converter tranceducer, solenoid valve or air regulator  to open the control valve meanwhile to optain the positioner .

Ofcourse we use the control valve without positioner

Yes A control valve can be used without a positioner (eg. Manually operated control valves) but if the valve is pneumatically actuated a E to P converter is must & without positioner there will not be any valve position feedback available, the valve operation may not be accurate & tight shut off for higher valve sizes will not be available.

Yes , we can  use control  valve without  positioner . Because positioner  is used for quick operation of control valve.

The Positioner is the integral part of control valve. Through positioner the position of control valve is controlled. In case of mechnical valves or Regulators the purpose can be meet without the postioner.
