Cooling BTU’s = 4.5 X CFM X Change in enthalpy

you can get enthalpy change from initial and final condition of air by psychometric chart.

Normally DX system gives 400 CFM / Ton but under certain conditions mentioned in their catalouge.

Thumb-rule 400 cfm per ton of cooling is needed for normal comfort applications, 500 cfm per ton of cooling for heat pump and high sensible heat applications, and 350 cfm per ton of cooling for high latent heat applications.

1TR = 400 CFM Delta T in F X Flow in USGPM / 24

the next formula has been taken from carrier catalog it may change from brand to other

Tidb = inlet dry bulb F

Tedb = exit dry bulb F

as a rule of thumb

for circulating supply and return units 300 :400 cfm per ton

For total fresh air units 150: 200 cfm per ton
