No one is required to show proof of expertise (or even knowledge) in order to post or edit information on any Wikipedia article.  For this reason, the site doesn't work as a reliable resource. However, that's not to say that it can't be used as a tool for research; almost all of their articles contain a "Reference" section, which offers both web and printed sources from which the information is (supposedly) gathered.  Many of the cited sources are academic and official.  It's always a good idea to look at those.

Wikipedia is a open source of information and is re-writable by its users making it comparatively lesser reliable. No writer takes accountability.

Now the question comes is why this source is not reliable for research info?

Research work is carried to give suggestion and recommendations based on the data collected from various sources. This actionable reports posses value and decisions are made basis on research reports.

When the source is not reliable, the information gathered will become obsolete.

Hence to make the research report authentic one has to go for trusted source and Wikipedia lacks this feature.

Wikipedia can be considered for research but one should not completely rely on wikepedia because informations on wikipedia can be edited by all users which is a drawback in one view.

However, the sources mentiond at the end of each topic will be really helpful for our research. Go through the source link for more information about the research topic.

Information on Wikipedia is not usually up to date, therefore may not provide the latest insight on the subject matter.

Moreover, insights on Wikipedia is based on someelse's findings and may not be as indepth as required depending also on the quality of insights needed by the researcher.

At best Wikipedia will give a head start into research, proper research work will require addition secondary sources and in most cases primary research to get the latest trends and insights.
