Importance of Operations Management:

 Operations management  is responsible for managing activities that are part of the production of goods and services.  Their direct responsibilities include managing both the operations process,  embracing design,  planning,  control,  performance improvement,  and operations strategy.  Their indirect responsibilities include interacting with those managers in other functional areas within the organisation whose roles have an impact on operations.  Such areas include marketing,  finance,  accounting,  personnel and engineering.

Human resource management

The people employed by an organisation either work directly to create a good or service or provide support to those who do.  People and the way they are managed are a key resource of all organisations.

Asset management

An organisation's buildings,  facilities,  equipment and stock are directly involved in or support the operations function.

Cost management

Most of the costs of producing goods or services are directly related to the costs of acquiring resources,  transforming them or delivering them to customers.  For many organisations in the private sector,  driving down costs through efficient operations management gives them a critical competitive in not-for-profit sector,  the ability to manage costs is no less important.

Role of Operation Management:

Operation Management is defined as the design, operation and improvement of production systems that create the firm’s primary product or services.

The Operations resources consist of five P’s of Operations Management as follows:

1.     People are the direct or indirect workforce

2.     Plants include factories or service branches where production is carried out

3.     Parts includes the material or supplies that go through the system

4.     Processes includes equipment and steps by which production is carried out

5.     Planning and Control system are the procedures and information management used to operate the system 

Importance of Operations Management:

Customers want the product that are made correctly, are customized to their needs, are delivered on time, and priced competitively. These are objectives of operations function and may be stated as quality, flexibility, speed and price of product. Achieving these functions to serve the customers is the importance of Operations Management. 

In reality, there are variations in scope of Operations Management in different firms or industry. However, the overall objective remains the same.

-Operation Management is specialised  in  improvement of production systems( schedules, plans manuals, procedures ,...)   that effect better to products or services or workers or equipment or operation systems
