A marketing manager manages people and resources, he's responsible for smooth execution of various marketing operations and to report to senior management. Executive is responsible for managing the firm at a highest level and reports to the board of directors or owners.
Difference between a Marketing Manager & Marketing Executive is :-
Marketing Manager:- A Marketing manager is a person who is responsible for managing a group of Marketing Executives under him. He's a team leader who is fully responsible for his team's growth as well as Sales Growth too. Whereas,
Marketing Executive:- Marketing executive is an individual who has to work under the supervision of a Marketing Manager. However, a marketing executive is fully responsible for his company growth directly or indirectly.
A Marketing Manager is the one who is respnsible for the Marketing Department of his/her firm. Hence, plans, budgets and overlooks the team and the marketing activities, which could entail a variety of platforms or mediums ensuring he/she gets the organizational message out into the market and connecting with the target audience. However, it comes down to the Marketing Executive to execute these, may it be by contributing ideas that add value, being physically present to ensure the activity has been done as required, connecting with suppliers/ agencies / partners. In essence one manages and the other executes, and they both go hand in hand to ensure a succesful marketing function.
An executive is typically C-level, or at a minimum an officer. A manager is lower level and reports to a senior manager or an executive.
Professionally speaking, a marketing manager holds the responsibility of his/her team and acquires the necessary tools to effectively launch marketing campaigns. The marketing manager is also responsible for reviewing marketing budgets and reallocating budgets as necessary. In my past experience as a marketing manager, I made it my job to work alongside my team, not just delegate tasks to his/her team.
Marketing executives make it their job to ensure that the approved marketing budget is being utilized appropriately, that marketing campaigns - whether traditional marketing methods or social media/digital marketing methods - are being implemented in accordance with the consumer profiles that have been created by them, and to work with the marketing manager to create effective and time-managed marketing plans.
Of course both roles are defined differently from one company to another, but - for the most part - I feel that what I described above provides a generalized insight to the roles.
