Explain hidden shares. How do they work ?

Hidden or administrative shares are share names with a dollar sign ($) appended to their names. Administrative shares are usually created automatically for the root of each drive letter. They do not display in the network browse list

 

A network share on a Microsoft network that is not visible when viewing another computer's shares; however, it is still accessible if the name of the hidden share is known.

hidden share gives the impression that the specific folder is not accessible 

which can be done by adding $ to the folder name.

some think thats its one of the best ways to protect data,but its not, since there are alot of utilities to acces al sorts of hidden and shared folders.

A Folder that is been hidden With "$" symbol, and The administrator or particular local user of the system can created the hidden folder, only the user whose have permission for it, or the user local user who created these folder, can access the hidden folder.

A hidden share is a folder created by the administrator on any window operating system.the difference between a normal share folder & ahidden share folder is that the share folder that is hidden is visible to the user who access the file server or a computer.

the share folder can be made hidden by share name to the folder followed by the dollar key.if we didn't use dollar key at the end it will be consider as normal folder.
