Agreed, the results can be maintained in excel but for more accurate and holistic view on issues regarding human resources and for larger organisations HRIS is needed for more strategic human resource management.

A basic HRIS can be developed and mantainted with Excell, it depends on the size of the company. But for sure a well developed HRIS is needed for a modern and strategic HR management.

Monitoring HR results is very important for top management.of an organization HR information system will provide data of HR on regular or monthly basis to keep the top management aware of HR needs and requirements. It will not be tough if the manpower of an organization is small, but large organizations should have proper information system for easy analysis of HR results like manpower requirement, pay scale, staff resigned, replacement, grievances, key staff required, legal formalities etc.
